Birthday MONTH: Day 12

Happy Monday to you all! I hope you have a wonderful week :)

I JUST decided to play along with everyone in Junkin' Monday! (Thanks to Lori @ My Faerie Window ;)

If you'd like to see more weekend goodies, click on this link to visit every one!!!

Despite the weather, I had a chance to slip away on Saturday to the Antique School Mall in Washington, LA. It's such a beautiful place in a small historic town about 30 minutes from where I live.

The original schoolhouse is now an Antique Mall. Each classroom is a vendor's booth. It's soooo pretty.  The original building is two stories and it still has the original wooden floors and transom windows on top of each interior door. Each classroom has a coat closet the length of the room...remember those? As an added bonus, the gym is located in the back of the building and filled with more vendors and a cafe too! If you are ever in the area, this place is a "must see".

Two weekends a year, (Spring & Fall) they host the Antique Fair, and other (non permanent) vendors come from all over to sell their wares. Such beautiful wares! I really enjoyed all of the little vignettes...

It was raining all day and very wet and muddy. Obviously that didn't stop the shoppers as I had to wait in line to pay every time I bought something!

I had a short term love affair with the sofa above. Or you can call it a love/hate relationship. Didn't I just mention that it had been raining all day and everything was very wet? um hum, I sure did mention that but I must have a mega-short term memory. Don't you think that I went over and sat on that darn thing? My shorts and underwear became a sponge and soaked in every ounce of rain that fell in the last 24 hours.  If ever I was going to have a stroke, it was at that moment! I had to walk around for the next 4+ hours feeling like I was getting a diaper rash, not to mention people were staring at me. I hated that sofa. Every time I'd pass by it, I'd roll my eyes.  Just looking at the photo, it still makes me mad. It's not the sofa's fault though, I should have went and slapped the vendor who didn't cover it. I mean really, look to the right of it...there was plenty of plastic! How dare he let it sit in the rain. I wonder if he'll enlighten the new buyer of this little wet detail. eeeewwww.

After that silly incident, I could have wiped out this  whole basket, one bottle at a time ;)

Okay, let's move on to more happier thoughts & prettier things ;)

Do you know what this is on top of the chair?

DSC_0104

I thought it was a fancy shmancy gumbo pot. Wrong! It is actually an original electric washing machine (for delicates only) and it still works! It's made of aluminum and enameled porcelain. Cute! I loved the porcelain topped table and chippy chairs!

Here's just a few more things that caught my eye as I strolled through the vendors outside...

DSC_0113 (2)

Look below at these old vintage hair pins! And those vintage knitting needles!

DSC_0103 (3)

I just love old sewing notions...Can't you tell???

DSC_0103 (7)

I picked up a few things,  I'll show you in a little while.

DSC_0098 (2)

Oh, and I love old baby/children's shoes. I don't have any though but I love to photograph them.

DSC_0112 (2)

This was my favorite find of the day...a baby bath tub.

DSC_0120 (2)

I didn't buy it. Did I need it? No. Did I want it? YES. What would I do with it? I would use it outside (or even inside) for entertaining. I'd fill it up with ice and put cold beer/cold drinks in it. Do I regret not getting it? OH HELL YES! Not buying it was my second stupid mistake of the day!

But I did manage to pick up these that put a smile on my face...

An old velvet and silk millinery hat~

An old book~

I don't have much knowledge on buttons and what they are worth. I just pick them up if I love the card they are attached to. However, I have become very fond of shell and mother of pearl buttons. My favorites are the old glass ones too.

So there is my loot for the day. It's simple but pretty none the less.

Thank you for coming along to the Antique School Mall and celebrating another day of my Birthday MONTH with me!!!

Tomorrow, we are opening another gift! yay! (two actually!)

Giggle, I hate to admit that I laughed at your wet bottom story....it sounds so like something I would do - getting caught up in the moment and plopping down on the wet sofa.

I once spilled a drink in my lap on an airplane and had to walk through the airport looking like I had peed my pants and it was a cold walk out to the car in Winter let me tell you...giggle.

Wish I could have gone to the school with you....rain or not...

First of all, I can not believe that sofa was left out in the rain. How Rude. Next, I agree the baby tub was a mistake. You should have picked it up and ran.

Your purchases are great. I love buttons too. The hat is a hit. I know the book is a keeper. Great shopping. Can't wait for the weekend so I can shop too.

You make everything you photograph look beautiful. I don't think I ever visited Washington when I lived in LA. The buttons are fantastic! Isn't it so wonderful to find beauty and joy in the simple things. All the best to you, wet bottom and all! :)Tammy

I loved the old schoolhouse. Everyone's blogs make me want to go down to Louisiana. I'm shocked that sofa was out in the rain. It looks so neat. I hope the vendor wasn't charging too much now that it's soaked.

Happy Birthday month!!!!

Hi Jodie,
your visit to the Antique mall must have been a real treat.
Love that baby bath tub - too bad you didn't buy it - it tha can be of some consolation to you most of the times I go to flea markets I come home with some regret for not buying some very USELESS beatiful item. And so whas it on Saturday!
But my favorite is the gorgeous silk and velvet millinery hat. really a must-have.
I went junking too on Saturday and brought home some very fine treasures from the flea market which will hopefully THEM post tomorrow (if I manage to take good pics when back from the office.) As i told you before, I regret not buying a second collector's tea cup + saucer (did I need it? NO, HAVE TOO MANY OF THEM AND NO MORE SPACE TO DISPLAY THEM PROPERLY. did i like it? YES, ACTUALLY ADORED IT. WOULD HAVE MATCHED WELL WITH THE ONE I BOUGHT. MAYBE BETTER BUY ANOTHER CUP RATHER THAN THAT SILVERPLATED TRAY.... you see, we all have regrets
Love that sofa, too. Quite bad of them leaving it our in the rain. What a shame!
Blessings

Jodie I really enjoy shopping with you at the Mall. I'm peeing my pants here laughing at you and the sofa. How much was the baby tub? That was amazing, in my kitchen under the window, for ice and drinks. Then a place to bath my grandbabies.

Love the buttons, I collect old buttons too.

Have a good evening.
