Mardi Gras 101 ... 48 hrs later

Oh Hello!

Just to let you know...I survived our Cajun Mardi Gras!!!

It's 48 hours later, and I'm late. I know. But now I'm feeling a little human again, at least enough to sit here with my head up and type this post. I'm late for work...again. But what's new?

Here's the low down...

I describe our Fat Tuesday festivities in our little town of Eunice, Louisiana as the Cajun Mardi Gras. It's the "rural version" of the majestic Mardi Gras as what one would think of in New Orleans.

We lack the "Hollywood" aspect of it. However, we do not lack the tradition of Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras.

So I'm going to make this recipe quick and you can read in between the lines of this Mardi Gras Jambalaya in Cajun Country...

Combine the following Ingredients:

Friends

Food

{good ole chicken & sausage gumbo}

Drinks

Cajun Tradition

{yes, that is a chicken on his head}

Parades

And Fun Fun Fun

Stir it up...

and you have Mardi Gras in Cajun Country!!!!

If you'd like to read more about Louisiana's History of the Cajun Mardi Gras in my small town of Eunice (& the surrounding rural areas), you can click on my link here. It's what I wrote about last year, which sums everything up...including the {chicken} details you are wondering about ;)

I'll be back tomorrow with a cool little storage tip for you. As I was "cleaning" out my studio last week, I thought I'd share a neat storage solution for those of you who are obsessed with clear stamps as much as I am.

Stay tuned...my headache is getting much MUCH better, thank you ;)

Oh Jodie,
Your makin' me homesick girl! What I would give for a bowl of that gumbo right now. I need a NOLA fix. I love the small town Mardi Gras, the city has just gotten too crazy. I tore it up in the 80's tho. Lisa
PS I knew you'd come thru for me on the prayer.

I've never been to Mardi Gras but I think I would enjoy the small town version much better!! I don't like big crowds let alone big wasted crowds!!!! I think yours was probably perfect! (aside from the headache which I'm glad is getting better!)

Yeehaw! Sounds like you did Mardi Gras up right. I can deal with the small version. Did Mardi Gras downtown in 1982 and it was just more than I could handle. Gumbo! Yum. My kids keep asking me to make it. Thanks for your visit today -- and just so you know, we asked Lydia how long it took her to do everything in her house. She said she didn't count by days, but by the hours ... and it took her 7 years. Can you even imagine? You are very creative Ms Jodie. Reflection was the perfect wish for today. Getcha some BC powder for that headache. :) Cheers! Tammy

Glad you had a fabulous time...Oh, thought about you this morning when my youngest son headed off to school today in a Saints Superbowl Champion t-shirt! He wanted the Saints to win all along, but just acted like he was for the Colts he said...

Nice to see someone else down here blogging. Seems like you had a wonderful Mardi Gras. I am stuck on the couch with a cervical collar on, but my son got to go with his girlfriend to some parades in New Orleans on Monday. Scared me to let my "baby" go to the Big Easy at night, but he was with a load of people.

I've been kind of wondering where you've been. The headache explains it!
Jodie - are those hard boiled eggs in that gumbo?
Did you eat crawfish?
Did Thad get a headache too?
DId he ever get mad over missing the entire SuperBowl game?
OH! Almost forgot, Harley and Jorja send kisses to Oreo. Not sure she wants them but here they are. (That reminded me of your sheet post - LOL)
MISS YOU! Can't wait to see what you did in your studio!
DId you visit Julia today? Isn't she just the sweetest thing? We gotta go to Germany Girl! How fun would that be. DO you like Beer? I hate it - maybe they serve wine too . . .
HUGZ!

Hey there Ms. Mardi Gras! Love this event, your explanation from last year and all the photos. But, I must have missed something. I read about the chickens but I didn't get why they wear them on their heads. Are the chickens drunk too and they are just giving them a ride?! I'm assuming it's a live chicken and not a chicken hat. And why does the chicken just sit there? Are they trained like dogs? Are they circus chickens that ran away? Its wings look like big ear muffs. That must be one happy chicken! Well, looks like a fabulous time - thanks for sharing more of your most adventurous life!
