Weekend Topper...literally!

DSC_0119 (2)

It's already Sunday evening!!!!

Oh this weekend has been so fun because I was able to do some really fun things...garage sales, antique shopping, and spending time with friends at the lake.

I mentioned in my last post that I'd share with you what I bought at the antique/flea market yesterday. Although the store is really an antique store, the prices are very good when compared to some in the area which I would sum it up as:  antique goods at {almost} flea market prices! Gotta go back there! Anyway, I didn't buy her nor the hat above but I did get these two little beauties below sitting atop this pretty old Stetson box...

These were my first ever hats that I found to have velvet millinery flowers on them!!! I always lust at the pictures that  Heather posts about her lucky hat finds...her vintage hat collection is so beautiful {sigh}. For those who know me, don't worry. I didn't buy these hats to wear nor to collect! I bought them to pluck the flowers off and use them for future paper/quilt art creations. Did you really think I was loosing my mind? ;)

DSC_0126

This cute little black velvet hat was $5!!! I had to look twice at the price tag. Then I had to regain my composure and stop myself from squealing with joy as I saw the second hat with more velvet millinery...

DSC_0128 (2)

Certainly a "no guilt plucker", this hat was $8!!! I don't know how much these hats would have cost in other places, but to me, just having all of this vintage velvet was priceless, especially finding TWO hats for under $15!!!!

So for now, I will enjoy them for a little while and bask in my weekend of good finds. And when I'm in the middle of a project and I feel the need to pluck a few vintage velvet flowers and leaves...they won't be far from my fingertips!

*** wake up! ***

Now for my REAL LIFE weekend in case you're interested, it's not always peaches and cream {or velvet and lace}  ;)

As much as I've been complaining about how hot it is here...ONE of our two air conditioner units is down with a freon leak and of course it's the one on the side of the house with our bedroom! errrr! So after a quick trip to Wal-Mart and a quick installation of a small window unit, the temperature in our bedroom is going down from 80 degrees to 73 and still has a way to go yet!

Hopefully I will sleep cool and comfortably tonight! And, Hopefully the repair man will be back tomorrow to locate the leak and FIX IT. I'm sure he's sooo busy during this time of year but if he is a wise man, he wouldn't want to make a woman {who hates to sweat} angry so therefore, hopefully he'll be here at 8am sharp~

We must never loose hope right?

Nighty Night friends~

I have some pictures to share of some cool things I thought were interesting from the antique store...coming soon so come back!

You must be in real heaven going there :-) Well, maybe almost LOL And how wonderful it is to have a garden inside the house and flowers growing in hats. I can just imagine you sitting, doing some projects, and when you feel like it - harvesting those flowers and put them to good use :-)

Your hat boxes stacked together beside the air conditioning unit are lovely. And you have found lots of beauties on your previous post. :-)

Wow, those hats were a steal! I would have squealed my head off. Proving that you have a lot more self-control than me, right? I can't believe those prices! You should be thrilled with all the great stuff you found this weekend. I'm thinking that I will overnight this job application.
Smiles,
June

I love the hats and flowers. How much fun you must have had this weekend. Finding bargins like this helps make the heat a little more bearable, Ok Maybe.

There is nothing as bad as an air conditioner not working in South Louisiana in July. Good Luck!

I'd say you cut a pretty good deal...pieced out, I know those flowers would be a heckuva lot more than $15!
So when you say things got really hot in the bedroom, you don't mean that in a good way, right?
Remember, we don't sweat...we glisten!
BTW, check out Ms. T's latest post...Mel and Brian of The Seed Box are going to be in Lafayette...isn't that close to you? They always have the best rust!!!

The hats are wonderful! You bring back memories for me of all of the fantastic hats that my Mom used to have and wear in the 1960's. The church that we attended then, hats were mandatory. I wish I still had her collection now.

Wonderful Hats and wonderful Blog. I hope you are cooler now!

What an inventive idea to use the flowers from the hats. It's so strange to think that hats used to be a part of an everyday outfit for the ladies, the last thing they put on before they left the house, that and the gloves! At least someone is recycling them, what do you do with the actual hat?

I've also been hearing about all the bloggers who suffering in extreme heat! You poor things. Here in the northwest it stays fairly mild most of the summer, we just get a few scorchers. Hope the air kicks in for you soon and sweet relief is on the way!

Ok another wonderful blog to add to my list!
Jodie, thank you so much for visiting my new blog. When I clicked on your blog I was wowed!!
I could almost here your accent when I read your blog. I have a bunch of family in Perry, FL (about 50 miles south of Tallahasee) and I can always pick out people from that neck of the woods. I never met a soul from the south that I didn't love.
Thanks again.
