Vintage finds while on the road...

Well most of you know that I have been on vacation last week.

This had to be one of the best vacations and having Sandy over from PA was a plus. We went to places that I didn't know existed. Thanks to my BFF Rose, we found two (new to me) local thrift stores. Fill a bag for a buck...I never knew that existed either! Where have I been? Would someone please help me move this huge rock I've been hiding under?

I have come to a conclusion. I work too much. If I wouldn't work that much, I'd know about all of this right??? Hubby are you reading this? It's all your fault, you make me work too much! ;)

Sandy taught me some thrifty tips and now I'm hooked on a couple of new things to add to my thrill of the hunt...

Shell and Mother of Pearl buttons. I have a new appreciation for them now. I found many that I cut off of thrift clothes, but when I emptied out my huge stash of buttons that I already had, I found lots more in there! Little gems I didn't even know I had. They look so pretty arranged together in a little glass jar. aahhh I just love them. They are my new obsession. No shirt will live another day!

Wait...can I have two new obsessions? If so, velvet ribbon would have to be my new one too. The only velvet ribbon I've ever owned was from Wal-Mart. {humbled as my head is down} And, the only vintage velvet ribbon I have ever owned was just given to me by Kelley, my partner in the Pink & Green swap. Now, thanks to finding an abundance of new unopened IMPORTED old stock, you can now call me the velvet ribbon whore hoarder as I tried to buy all of what was available! I am a good sport though. I let Sandy choose what she wanted and I am donating an unopened scarlet red box here. I loved the ribbon so much that on the way back from bringing Sandy to the airport for her flight home, I stopped and bought some more. A lot more. I think I need help. Seriously!

I have come to another conclusion. I really didn't need this much velvet ribbon in every color and every size.  Sandy are you reading this? It's all your fault, you should have never told me the difference between imported and made in China!

I was fine before she came. Now I have obsessions.

I should have not taken a vacation. Now I have no money.

It's not my fault!

Just kidding...Thad & Sandy: I love you!

What is your obsession???

Now Jodie, the first thing about overcoming an addiction is admitting you have problem. I can help you with this problem. Seriously, I can. But you have to give me all your buttons and ribbon first.
Hugs, June

I can see why you fell in love with the vintage velvet ribbon ~ it's fantastic!

One of my obsessions would have to be perennials for the gardens and garden statuary.

Great stuff! I love buttons and velvet ribbon too:) As for my obsessions-where do I begin? (I really don't think you have enough space for them all:). Let's see I'm obsessed with anything to do with tea, Victoriana, vintage clothing, hats, hand painted porcelains, vintage lace, roses, old books...well you get the idea:). Needless to say I am very easy to shop for at Christmas!

Blessings,

Kim

There are a few things that compare to the exquisite feel of velvet ribbon...
I love the way aged velvet picks up a certain sheen, similar to the one of your mother of pearl lovelies :)
Thank you for peeping at my blog, you're more than welcome to stop by anytime.

Obsessions? I love old black tin document boxes. My favorites are a small cash box with compartments, an artist box with paint palette, and a long narrow safety deposit box I bought this weekend. Don't know why I love them but I do.
Oh, and sewing boxes, and anything sewing related, and buttons and ribbons, and anything old from paper. Help me before I collect again.

I am obsessed with obsessions! I have no clear path...I just run amuck.
I would have so bought those buttons, though! Love buttons...white buttons. My g'mother was a beautician and I have this wonderful old box that was hers filled with white buttons of all kinds that she kept to replace lost ones on her uniforms. (Back in the day, they wore white uniforms...dresses no less!) I just love looking at them.
I loved looking at yours too.

Look at all the pretties!! I also have a "thing" for the old stock velvet ribbons! I inherited a bunch from an older friend who decided to sell or give away most of her possessions and retire to the isle of Crete to paint! She was also the source of a good bit of my lace stash :)

As for buttons, aren't they just wonderful?? I have a big silver one that has a child chasing a dragonfly......too pretty!
