Okay, I am new to this blog stuff. It's only been a little over a month now since I have created my wonderful little blog spot. I try to write often. I try to think of neat things to talk about. I am trying to post pretty pictures...But what I am getting around to say is...

NO ONE LEAVES ME ANY COMMENTS!   :(

NCRS Nationals 2008 St. Louis_037 (2)

Are the thoughts of  my daily life going down the drain?

I get lots of  emails from some of you asking me questions and commenting about my posts, but is anyone really reading my blog? I mean, I read my favorite blogs daily and I am so jealous! Some blogs have from 1 to 135 comments! And Mine? For the last 7 posts...I have 0 comments. I look & feel like a dork. Would someone out there just show me some blog love and let me know you are out there looking in? Please?

PS...You gotta love this picture. It was sent to me by a best friend who just returned from St. Louis, MO. She really got a kick out of the drainage system. I thought it was beautiful! Thanks Janet for sending me the picture!

Focus...

I am trying to focus. Not on life or anything (that would be too serious), but trying to experiment with my darn Nikon camera. It's more than I can handle (or need!)

DSC_0062 (2)

I just acquired it a few months ago. I have tried to read the (6-inch thick)  manual but I am just not familiar with all the "camera terminology". I think I need to enroll myself in a photography class but I don't have time. It's on my list of things to do before I die, but for right now, all I want to do is photograph some of the jewelry I've made and out of about 30 something pictures, these are the only ones that came out! Augh! So I will share these with you (and practice later!).

This blue & yellow floral bracelet and drop earrings were re-purposed from a broken chintzy glass necklace I found at a flea market. I added the glass cobalt and silver for a crispy spring feel. It looks great with my old yellow shirt and my favorite pair of jeans. (Martha Stewart style!)

DSC_0079

Now in the picture below, why is flower so clear but the earrings are a little blurry? I would rather the background be blurred instead of the subject. Hmmm...DSC_0079 (2)

I just completed the following pink & pearl set. I will pack it up cutesy pooh and send it to my sister as a birthday surprise from my son. She is his God-Mother and he wanted to get her something special so I volunteered to make something special just for her.  (It's okay, she doesn't have a computer & she has no idea so don't tell her!)

DSC_0057 (2)

No vintage re-purposing here...all new glass & silver beads. New, but with my own vintage design.

DSC_0081

This picture below worked...I like the crispy clear subject with blurry background but I don't know how I did it!

Maybe I need to focus right now on getting some work done instead of playing...oh how I LOVE TO PLAY!

Bridal shower goodies...

I have the impromptu honor of helping some of my friends put a bridal shower together for Saturday. The couple was married in a private family ceremony a couple of weekends ago so now her family is inviting friends to celebrate. Here are a few peeks of the corsages we made. The small corsages are for the mother, mother-in-law and the two grandmothers. The large one with all the ribbons is for the new bride and the (6) cone corsages are for the lovely hostesses.

These are my first cone corsages I have ever made.

They were so much fun and I love this paper from K&Co. We beaded the little gold and silver curly-q's, added some sassy feathers, ribbon, & tulle. We also hung beaded sewing trims from the bottom for that added bling...

Sweet gift...

Just for me, for no reason at all! I feel so special!

 rose

This was such an unexpected surprise. My sweet dear friend Rose made this just for me! She knows I've been wanting to learn how to sew after being so inspired by some of the artwork shown in my many subscriptions of Somerset. She is a seamstress so this wonderful talent is nothing new for her and I am so very envy of her. She's more than willing to teach me how to use my machine but I have been so busy lately! Maybe after my return from Silver Bella in November when it's cold and rainy outside, I'll start practicing with my scrap material. I should definitely be inspired to do so by then! And I must not forget, I have a great pair of pinking shears now!

I think I'm addicted...

to my "extended family"...

extended family

Is there such a thing as CCA... cabinet card anonymous? If there is...please give me the phone number so I can stop this insanity!

I bought one little picture on Thursday, then I come home with 5 more on Saturday! Let me explain to you how this happened to me. (maybe you can help me or know someone who is in the same predicament as I am)...

1. I think I am attracted to the photographer's commercial embellishments at the bottom of the card.

cabinet cards (2)

The more elaborate, the better. I found one I liked and when I turned it over to see how much it cost, I thought I was seriously going to pass out. The elaborate beauty that I am so attracted to was on the back of the card also! (I'll blame the weakness feeling on my blood sugar running low, I really was starving!)

cabinet cards 001 (2)

2. Then I looked at how appealing the person was in the photograph before I took the plunge of shucking out my lunch money to purchase a picture of someone who is probably dead by now or has been dead as long as I have been alive. (After all, the final outcome is I do want a good looking extended family!)

3. Maybe I'm attracted to wondering who they were, what's their story, and what kind of life they lived. (Do you think someone will find my picture in about 100 years and wonder about me like that?)

Now I'm asking for your help in my addiction...what's on your cabinet card? I'd love to see your extended family.

My first...

Cabinet card...

 DSC_0005 (2)

Isn't she just beautiful? I don't know who the hell she is but I was overwhelmed when I saw her, I just had to have her. And since I don't have any cabinet cards of my own... for $2.00, she was asking me to take her home and give her a new family!

I'll name her Miss Sophie.

My SNL Belinda took me to this neat place yesterday, sort of an antique/flea market (most antiques). It was on my list of places to visit but I had never been so I was sooo excited. There was so much to look at and I wish I had a dollar for every time I said or thought..."Ma Mere or MawMaw 'Teen had one JUST like that!" (My two wonderful grandmothers). It was like walking back in time. I mostly loved looking at the toys. The Fisher Price family house was my favorite as a child. I had the Farris wheel, the blue house with the yellow roof, the school bus...I could go on and on. My sister (10 years older than me) and I would play for hours and hours with our little "spool dolls". I still have some in the attic in pristine condition! How I'd give anything to pull them out and sprawl all over the floor again and spend hours and hours playing with them again. My husband would have me committed!

Then I came across these scissors...

 DSC_0009

At least that's what I thought they were until I actually picked them up. To my wonderful surprise...they were PINKING SHEARS!

DSC_0013

If I could tell you how bad I needed a pair! I can't wait to cut some scrap pieces of material and spend a day in my 'therapy room' and just scrap my heart out! That day is coming...soon if I can help it!

Glad ya'll got to meet Miss Sophie. Have a great weekend!

2007 brett

Today went like this:

Me: Brett, what would you like for your birthday?

Brett: I don't want to go in for work today.

(He works for his dad & I during the summer breaks)

Me: Okay, you can stay home if it's okay with Dad.

It was, so he played World of Warcraft ALL day long...

DSC_0265

Me: Well, what else would you like?

Brett: Mom, could you please cook me some tasso, pork meat, rice & gravy and black eye peas & cheesecake for dessert?

Me: Sure thing.

DSC_0270

Me: But Brett, don't you want SOMETHING for your birthday?

Brett: Nothing really Mom, I have everything I want.
