Worthmore 5 & 10...

DSC_0137

Located in Rayne, Louisiana...this old corner store will surely bring you back to your childhood days and have you smiling the moment you walk into the front doors.

DSC_0048

The nostalgia all over in there is indescribable as nothing has been done to this store to "upgrade" in any way, not even the old original cash register ...

DSC_0072 (2)

It doesn't ring up anything over $9.99.

If you would buy something for let's say... $45.00, they would have to "ring" it up 4 times, plus $5.00. And yes, this is the only cash register they use, it is not for show.

Grab a shopping (hand) basket, inhale the "old store" smell and let's do a little shopping, shall we?

DSC_0103 (2)

I have taken many MANY of my friends here. Friends who live out of state love to come shopping here when they come down to visit.  As for us locals, we come often as this is where I get my supply of velvet ribbon and...

my big girl panties...

DSC_0083 (2)

and my curlers...

DSC_0095 (2)

(just kidding. I was making sure you were paying attention!)

Really though, aside from velvet ribbon, I could spend all of my money on buttons to support my endless supply of OLD imported French and Italian buttons...

DSC_0050 (2)

Do you think I'm kidding?

I'd never kid about my love for buttons. Couldn't you just spend the afternoon touching each and every one of these cards?

I've timed myself once before. One hour and twenty two minutes standing in front of this wall of buttons. Yep. I swear!

DSC_0050

The wall is so huge, I couldn't get it all in one shot.

Here's another view as it just keeps going on and on...

DSC_0051

Can you imagine all of that ribbon too? Oh the distractions are unbelievable...you just have to see for yourself! ;)

Yummy eye candy for us who love everything old!

DSC_0059

I get my supply of embroidery thread at .39 cents each!

No kidding!

DSC_0058 (3)

Rows and rows of old METAL zippers at .49 each!

Everyone's making those zipper flowers now.

At this price on the vintage ones, who could resist???

DSC_0060 (2)

And of course, there are rows and rows of every color and size of rick-rack and piping...

DSC_0055 (2)

Isn't all of this COLORFUL STUFF gorgeous????

I know!!!

{sigh}

DSC_0054

I can only imagine the OLD stock they have in those drawers underneath!!!!! woooo hoooo!

Let's move on...I could stay here all day!

There are old school supplies mixed in with the new. I picked up some old writing tablets that were so perfectly aged around the edges! There were down on the bottom shelves...so worth bending over and digging past the new stock!!!!

DSC_0073 (2)

Another one of my favorite isles is the toy isle.

This is where I remember as a little kid crossing the street with my quarter in my hand and running into the store like a crazy kid on the quest of finding a new toy!

These little baskets were impossible not to run my fingers through and wish that I had about 10 of each!

DSC_0078

I would always stop to look at the dolls...

DSC_0069

and the other "girlie" toys...

DSC_0090 (2)

but I always found myself back in the basket area again, picking out my favorite Cowboy and Indians.

I'd buy as much as I could for a quarter and sometimes, the clerk would give me an extra one or two! That would REALLY make me a happy little girl!

DSC_0075 (2)

Aaaahhhh, those were the good old days.

But I must admit, walking into Toys R Us ain't so bad for me, even today as an adult...it's still fun!!!! :)

*****

Pam, Sandy and I had fun in there.

We filled our hand baskets with goodies and giggled at all the OLD stuff that we couldn't imagine anybody buying it today like the old make up and beauty supplies. They were so outdated but the packaging is still awesome!

Please don't think that I'm only going to be blogging about my trips...that's not so.

I've been busy with many other fun things too!

I still need to show you my "new" studio, show you some swaps that I'm participating in and finish posting about our road trip to Texas for Chantal's wonderful girl's weekend!

The wonderful Texas weekend is coming up next!

Can you guess who these happy people are???

DSC_0048 (2)

My gosh, it's hard to fathom that I'll be leaving in a couple of weeks for TEXAS again!

It's ROUND TOP time again!!!! woooo hoooo!

Oh, my gosh, Jodie! I'd spend every day in that store! Are you kidding me with that amazing wall of buttons???

I even love all those old dolls--my mom bought a huge stash of those old kewpie-like dolls from a very old craft store that went out of business near her!

Hope you're having a fabulous day!

Jodie....way back when I was a little girl - like 7, 8, my cousin and I would spend the night at my Grandparent's home. In the morning, our grandpa would give us a quarter each. We would walk probably about 1/2 mile or more,by ourselves...to the 5 & 10. We would buy nick nacks, candy, hankies...come home with a bag of stuff for that quarter. It is such a cherished memory and one kids today will never be able to experience. I enjoyed your post...

You are one traveling girl. Can't believe you'll be on the road again. I'm living vicariously through your travels.

I love that store!! I am a rick-rack addict! I got a huge box of it once from a yard sale and was in crafting heaven. :) I too would spend so much time in front of those buttons! I'm bad enough at Jo-Ann fabrics, let alone a place like that! :D Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for sharing. It brings me right back to the good old days when things were so simple. Why can't we have stores like that now? I think they would do well, don't you. Just take a dollar store, put it in an old building a jazz it up a little....I think it would work!

Hi Jodie,
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I could spend hours in there drooling over all the ribbon, buttons and trims.
Brings back memories of an old store with creaky wood floors that I used to go to as a child.

Great post. Love the photo of you happy junkers.

I adore old stores like that. There is an old drugstore here that still has the old fashioned Soda Fountain and booths from the turn of the century... somehow the Shakes just taste so much better in that ambiance of yesteryear, my Grandchildren love going there and seeing how it was back in the day when Gramma and Great-Nanna were a kid. *wink*

I would go nuts there. I love nothing more than an old hardware store or five and dime. Does it have wooden floors? No matter. Just gazing at all that good stuff is more than enough. Heaven.

Hi Jodie,

It was great to come and visit you and see that delightful shop.
I so wished I could go there with you and get some buttons, ribbons and rick rack braid.
Thanks for showing us and I hope that you are having a great week

Hi Jodie, Visiting this shop must be like a trip with a time machine to the past. It's such a great shop but it always amazes me that it still exists. Not everybody is like us and enjoys all those wonderful outdated supplies. Are you their best customer :-)? I love their attitude of using that pretty but uncomfortable cash register.
Have a great day, girl :-)!
Big hugs,
Julia

What a dream store for anyone who creates! I am salivating over here in Canada! The only place to get deals on these sort of things is in the U.S. Here in Canada we have NOTHING! So glad I can cross the border over to my parents' in Oregon to fill my need of antiques and collectibles!
Thanks for stopping by and yes, the art retreats are in the very near future! I can't wait - Oregon coast + great art teachers + food + alcohol = A GREAT TIME!! And yes, I WILL bring you along with the pictures and posts I do! Stay tuned....
Have a great day Jodie!
