Where did I put my Horse?

It's time for me to saddle up as I'll be leaving soon for my long weekend in the BIG STATE OF TEXAS...

I'm headin' to Paper Cowgirl!

Yee Haw!

How did that sound for a "wanna be" Cajun Cowgirl?  :)

Aside from visiting some of the beautiful, and I mean BEAUTIFUL creative spaces out there from the Where Blogger's Create II party (which I'm still not NEARLY finished visiting all of them yet) and reading all of my SWEET comments (which I thank you all VERY much!), I have been very busy creating my swap gift for Paper Cowgirl.

DSC_0203 (2)

I only joined ONE swap (thank goodness). Those cowgirls really had some great swaps to choose from but I knew that if I joined them all, I'd be biting off more than I can chew right now.

DSC_0206 (2)

This was a cuff swap hosted by Suzie. She paired me up with Laurie Griffin, (I don't think she has a blog). I'll be meeting her for the first time when we swap cuffs at the Meet & Greet Dinner on Thursday night. (omg...that's tomorrow night! woo hoo)

Laurie's wishes were for me to make a cuff for her in the colors she loves...browns, rusts and creams.

DSC_0201 (2)

So I started off with a creamy quilted material and layered some hand~dyed lace, stamped muslin and cheese cloth. I attached them with some small hand stitches and clusters of glass pearls. I added a rhinestone belt buckle to the center of the cuff and glued a metal button to the bottom of it. There, I attached dangling glass pearls and glass flowers.

DSC_0207 (2)

I added a rhinestone clustered ball to the opposite end of the clasp. I love dangling bling on the closures of my jewelry, don't you?

I finished off the edges with a flesh colored seam binding. I'm so thankful that the style of today is "shabby" and "tattered" as I cannot sew a straight line to save my life. When this "style" goes out of style, I'll save my sewing machine in the back of the closet until this "style" comes back again ;)

This is what I my finished cuff  looks like...I hope Laurie likes it.

Sometimes it's hard to make something so personal for someone you don't even know...know what I mean?

(sorry about the lighting)

What should have taken me only a couple of hours to make, this cuff was an all day affair. Not because of the skill as it was fairly easy but because of the distraction of the wonderful movies I've been watching on the Lifetime Channel while I was creating!

I found myself holding the needle and thread for thirty minutes in between each stitch while engrossed in the movies!

Does that ever happen to you?

Please say "yes" so I keep thinking that I'm normal ;)

Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a wonderful week/weekend.

I'll be back on Sunday evening, hopefully with lots to post about (throughout next week) of our fun at Paper Cowgirl.

You know that I love to take you along with me on all of my adventures, don't you?

But...

Don't forget my number ONE (& only) rule...

Don't have fun without me while I'm gone!

Hey Cajun Cowgirl, Your cuff turned out just beautiful and I'm sure, that Laurie will love it. I'm looking forward to seeing what she has created for you.
Now go throw your lariat and catch the most possible fun in Texas! I'll wait here and play with the soap box in the meanwhile. Thank you for allowing me to have a little bit of fun as well, lol.
Lots of hugs (please forward some to Lisa) :-),

Oh, how I wish I were a Texan girl. Paper Cowboy looks like so much fun. You have gone to some incredible art retreats this year, Miss Jodie.

I think your cuff is stunning. I would love it. I hope your partner loves it. It is hard to do something when you don't know someone well but only they can tell you what they like.

Good job on keeping the swaps down. I am finishing two and from now on, one at a time!

Hugs,
Suz

Have a good time! I am so not crafty but love to see what others do. That cuff is gorgeous.

Leanne said...

oh wow ... that cuff is just the most gorgeous thing. It looks a little puffy, did you layer something additional in or is that the cheesecloth tricking the eye? Just a gorgeous thing... my cuffs are so simple in comparison.

Have fun at Paper Cowgirl.... maybe next year.

Have a wonderful weekend with the Paper Girls. I am so jealous and of course I won't have any fun. You have just taken alot of pressure off of me with this post, I was thinking we had to have the soap box done by Friday and I ain't even close to that, now I see we have until Monday. The art angels are looking down on me.
Have fun, wish I were there to give you and your partner in crime a big ole hug. Can hardly wait to see your posts.
Hugs,
Debby

So go feed the dog, pack the suburban (easel too), get your boots, (all 3 pairs), don't forget your cuff you made for me (oops I mean Laurie), tell Thad to give you a boat load of money & then lose your number for the next 3 days. (well, you better give him a big smooch before saying the lose my number part). Then burn rubber baby~

Hi Jodie!
I've been trying to pop over and say "Thank you for leaving such a sweet and fun comment on my blog!" for about a week now. Everytime I think I have a free moment to get on the computer to blog, something always, ALWAYS, seems to happen that demands my immediate attention. I'm sorry it's taken so long to pop over and say "Hi, or Howdy!!"

The cuff you made is absolutely fabulous!! I don't think I've ever seen one as beautiful, and I really mean that. You made it beautifully and I'm sure Laurie will be absolutely thrilled with it!

When you say you're coming to Texas, do you mean actully coming out for the exchange??? Wow, That is going to be SO fun! It is a little hot here, right now, but I'm sure you'll be having too much fun to notice. Safe journey and God bless!
Patricia :o)
