It's three something in the morning ...I just couldn't sleep.
The gears in my 39 year old body are in motion...
Unlike the gears in this old 1920's-1930's {?} typewriter.
She sits still at the moment, waiting for me to show her some love.
I would have paid $20.
The dust, grime, and spider webs were included in the price...
and that's okay with me. I love all of that as she proudly boasts her true age. Some things age with beauty.
I would have paid $30.
She still hits the mark. She still dings. She does everything she's supposed to. She's a true vintage find.
I would have paid $40.
But if you look at her a little closer, she is showing her age. Gracefully of course. Her cast iron shell is slightly pitted and a little rusty, but she's still beautiful none the less.
I would have paid $50.
Let's take a step back and not dwell on all of her little imperfections. Let's enjoy her just the way she is.
I only paid $10. I didn't even try to bargain.
I'm happy I found her. I'm honored that I'll be a part of her story. She's a constant reminder of aging beauty.
How does one determine beauty? It is in the eye of the beholder.
To me, she's priceless.

Hi Jodie~
Thanks for visiting with me. I like your blog!! I love everything vintage too.
I like the typewriter; the old keys look like they are just begging to be pressed again to etch out a novel of legend or lore.
Great find!!

Love this typewriter...
I still can see you carrying this heavy thing to your car. Which happen to be a piece down the street. I bet you didn't even notice how heavy it was. You were twinkling big time. I'm so happy you found this. Sit back and enjoy it.

Beautiful! I'm only 43, and it's hard to believe that there was a time as a legal secretary I used a typewriter to do my work -- albeit electric, but mistakes were inevitable and you still had to start over if you made too many. Now we are blogging from around the world and sharing the most interesting finds and creative inspiration! Happy 8th Birthday Month to you! :)
Brat! Ten bucks. You stole her!
What does Sophie have to say about that?
What I want to see is the LIBRARY!!!! Come on - share!!!
I wonder if you could still find a ribbon for it? Thank God for the internet. If there is one - you'll find it.
Love her. I think she is priceless too.
GOOD JOB!!!!
Have a good day!
$10?! Every time you post a treasure like this, and say you bought if for peanuts, I promise to yell the price back at you in a question form. ;) You lucky girl, you.
I love the way you write Jodie. Sometimes funny...sometimes serious...but always, the most interesting read of my day. Beautiful post...beautiful typewriter.
Hugs,
June

Oh Jodie-this is beautiful! I love how you focused on the beauty still present even though age sometimes wears us down a little:). The typewriter is even prettier now than it was before. I hope you are still enjoying your birthday month! I'm off to read your posts that I have missed!

Hi Jodie,
I have the old Underwood typewriter that belonged to my Mother, her Father had given her.
It is just like yours and is away in a lock up.
I will have to get mine and show you.
Happy birthday weekend!
