Birthday MONTH: Day 19

Happy Monday to you all!

Okay...after reading the comments from the last post, I thought I'd share with you the BAD/NOW GOOD NEWS today...

Let's see if you can figure this out on your own. If not, I'll fill in the details.

Hint: It's every Mother's nightmare (every Mother who has a child that races a dragster)

My 21 year old son, Brett...

and his dragster...

had a close call on Saturday.

There's a lot of horse power going on in there...

Short summary:

Saturday, the boys were racing about an 1.5 hours away. I had just returned home from the 7-mile yard sale. I got a phone call from hubs (Thad). He tells me that Brett had an accident on the race track and the ambulance is loading him up and bringing him to the hospital. I called my sisters and my sisters in law because when they pray, good things happen. I get advice from my sister about what to look for and listen for. (She is the best {ICU} RN in the world and I so admire her) I arrive at the hospital. I am relieved to see him moving, talking, breathing and being sarcastic as usual. I know now that everything is okay. After x-rays, a shot of steroids and pain medications, we are headed home. Brett will be SORE for the next week and probably every time the weather changes. But this is not his first rodeo of broken bones!

Brett was starting to make a pass down the track. The car's nose went straight up towards the sky and came down hard which jolted Brett's back. ER listed it has thoracic sprain and he is okay...except for his feelings.

Racing is his blood and unless it bleeds out, I don't think he'll stop.

Now look like this...

So he's back at college today with three tests to take this week.

He is fine.

We are fine.

It was just another day at the races.

(and those boys wonder why I don't go and watch!)

The GOOD NEWS tomorrow! I promise :)

Happy nother birthday month day. I sure sympathize with the son. Our son rode a dirt bike and had an accident and broke his collarbone. That was after he started to have children. He decided he couldn't afford to get hurt and not work. He started raising horses and riding and now he is have horse back riding accidents. But he will never give up the horses. His kids are older and his wife also work. I guess he is willing to take the chance. Glad your son was not hurt. Blessings

Jodie, how do you do it? Know he's out there racing...it would scare the bejebies outta me.
I have got to get a picture of my son Ladd and send it to you, he and Brett look like brothers. I guess maybe if I saw Brett without the cap and sunglasses not so much, but if he's like my son, he never takes them off.
I'm so glad that everything is OK. What a blessing.
Hugs,
June

I lived out every mothers nighmare for years of recovery so I do know, the hospital called me and told me my 18 year old son had been in a bad wreck and the police wanted to talk with me. I later learned they revived him 3 times on the way to the hospital...I am so grateful your son is alive and well, we have so much to be thankful for and thank God for guardian angels.

Ps. It is my birthday month also. :)

Thank God that your son is alright! It is great that you called for prayer right away. We used to call our son crash..... since he was a child,he crashed his dirt bike, snowmobiles, moped, cars, trucks, etc. he has always been fine . Thank God. We mothers never stop praying , no matter how old they get. Blessings to you!

Yikes! Knowing that he is out there racing is a nail biting situation, but you can't change what's in his blood. Thank God he is just bruised up and will be fine in time. Okay -- tomorrow, the really good news! Happy 19th day! :) Tammy

Hey Jodie! I just had to come by. Deb at Talking Trash told me you had posted about the 7 mile garage sale, too! I am always so excited to meet other Louisiana blogger girls! We also ended up going to Breaux Bridge. I had so much fun!

Girl, let me tell ya, my boys are still little, but one day I know they will want to do stuff like this and I am terrified! I couldn't imagine getting a call like that! I will have to walk around with my eyes closed all the time and pray!

Take care,
Adrienne

Oh golly!
BOYS! DOn't they know they scare the bejeepers out of their Moms when they do these things?
We are headed to glamis with our boys this weekend. It is in the IMperial Sand dunes - Ca, AZ and Mexico borders. We've gone there . . . forever. But . . . I still worry. Not about my boys riding skills, but about the other idiots out there that are drinking and riding or inexperienced riders with NO CLUE!

I am soooooo glad all is well with Brett! WHew!
hugs. Karen

Brett~~~
When your mom called us, we stopped everything...
gathered our friends at South Padre Island,
where we were for Sand Castle Days,
and we prayed the
Divine Mercy Chaplet
for YOU!!!
We are so thankful
you will be alright and well....
I know you must be sore,
so take it easy,
and allow your body to heal completely.
Be patient with yourself Brett. You could have been paralyzed!
I can't think about it....
Stay safe
and know we love you always,

I'm so glad your son is ok. I know about those powerful pray-ers and call on them in my family whenever they are needed. My 25 year old son works for the Bureau of Land Management and was thinking that working the fire crews (maybe even training as a fire jumper) would be a good thing. Whooeee. My mother face kept straight, but my heart was doing flip flops. I think he's changed his mind, but I understand why you don't go to the races.
hugs,
~Marilee
