Yesterday, my day started off at 4 in the morning. (what was I thinking?) The typical shower, let the dog out, check my emails, etc. But yesterday was no typical day...it was the 7-mile yard sale day!!! I was so excited. I was meeting Sarah and Sandi again for a fun junking day. As a bonus, Sarah brought her Mom (from Mississippi) to join in the fun.  She's such a sweetie!!!

We met in Grand Coteau for some coffee and then piled up in my car. It was still dark out but we managed to surf through tables and boxes thanks to Sarah's flashlight.

The sun soon came up and it was a beautiful morning. However, I was noticing something very different. Kind of an uneasy feeling. But we had fun and strolled along the side streets, opening the trunk often to put our little smalls inside for safe keeping & to have our hands free for the next stop ;)

I looked at my cell phone to see what time it was and something just wasn't right. We were clearing some serious territory and it hadn't even been a couple of hours yet. I thought about last spring when I was here at the 7-mile. It suddenly hit me, there was only a tenth of the yard sales this day than there were in April. As we drove down the 7-mile highway, I looked forward to all of those wonderful houses that had the most awesome yard sales last time, only to find them void of tables and signs and most of all, people.

DSC_0008 (2)

Was this worth getting up at 4 in the morning for? And driving 45 minutes? Silly me...of course it was! The best part of the day was the company!!!! It's amazing how 4 gals can get together and have so much fun just walking, talking, shopping, and going out for lunch. I really needed this day.

DSC_0009 (2)

We see a yard sale sign (off the beaten path) and like some wild adventurous explorers, we go! To my delight, it is one of my favorite old buildings in the small town. The sign out front said "everything" for sale! yippie! We walked in the old building that was once an old grocery store and we started digging through boxes, room to room we went around in a circle to see what each other found. I found those old merchandise boxes above, my jackpot of the day. I love old ephemera so that was a big score for me!

DSC_0011 (2)

And, I found some lovely old (non plastic) dominoes, still in the original wooden case! So I proudly go to pay the 100 year old man and he says, "Oh, you've got some old stuff there young lady, how about a $1 for all of those old boxes and a $1 for...no wait...I've been looking for me some dominoes, those dominoes are not for sale." I turn red. I'm thrilled that I got all of my boxes for $1 because they can go from $4 plus a piece.

DSC_0014 (2)

But since I'm ticked off and want those dominoes so bad, (I can't shut my mouth when I'm mad) I say "What? You've got to be kidding! The sign says everything in here is for sale, what's up with that?" He put the beautiful wooden domino box behind him and said "Sorry lady, they ain't for sale." I rip out a dollar out of my wallet and pay for my ephemera and fuss all the way to my car. The girls are laughing at me as they know that this is NOT the first time this happens to me! I find the coolest things and when I go to pay the owner, they don't want to sell it for some reason   ;(

But that didn't stop me from shopping as I found one more bag of goodies for $3. It was a huge bag of beautiful lace. I had fun this morning going through all of it and straightening out the cords.

DSC_0020 (2)

My favorite of all the lace is the cord of olive green/taupe lace with the flowers and ribbon pattern. It's so fine and dainty, I cannot wait to use it in a mini art quilt of some kind.

DSC_0018 (2)

Also, there were 7 bags of cream lace that were never even opened! So you know what that means right? With my POD (package opening disorder), they will remain just as you see them. They are for viewing purposes only! ;)

So there is all my loot from yesterday. We were done before noon which was sad because when I went in the spring, we didn't finish until almost 4 in the afternoon! It just wasn't as big this time. Maybe because it is hunting season or football season or maybe it is the economy...I have no idea. But I do know that when next spring comes, I'll be up at 4 and ready to go check out the 7-mile yard sale again! I'm such a glutton for punishment! ;)

Important Question:

My day was great yesterday and I have A LOT to be thankful for...

Which would you prefer me to post about tomorrow,

the good news or the bad/now good news?

I cannot believe you got all that lace for $3. You'd only get a foot of lace for that much around here. What great finds! At one time, I was collecting old tins and cross-stitching the same designs for my dining room. That was oh so long ago. Glad to hear you had a great day! We are gonna go to the plant souk again this weekend and buy tons of plants for the balcony so that I can see green again! Looking forward to your not so bad news tomorrow. Wishing you a wonderful afternoon on this the 18th day of your birthday month! :) Tammy

Definitely worth waking up early! :) I love your lace. I'm a big lace hoarder, too.
WHY do vendors have something out and then take it back??? Ugh. That's really annoying.
I think you should post about both tomorrow! :)

You are going way faster than I can respond!! Happy birthday to the birthday girls. I love what you bought, it would be impossible to find those packages here, they are awesome. Domino stones (wood) are quite common over here, you'll find them again. I'll go for the good news! Have a great day, enjoying your purchases!

Hi Jodie,

Now that is a very early start ... but as they say .... the early bird, gets the worm.
I love all the laces and cords you got and sorry about the dominoes.
I wonder why he did not sell them?
Also like your new computer and the handbag. Lucky lucky!
Have a great birthday week # 3

Those laces have got me going Jodie. I can't even wrap my mind around a 7 mile yard sale. You know in most of Idaho there's only one house every 10 miles of road.lol Well a lot of places anyway. I'm glad that you had fun with your buds and got all that great stuff. Darn that old man and his dominos anyway.
Hugs,
June

Omg...I have POD too! What is wrong with us?
Obviously, he didn't know what all he had in his store and just needed you to dig it out for him. I've had the same thing happen at estate sales...only I'll walk away and not buy anything. Talk about cutting your nose off!!!
Both!!!
Debbie
P.S. Cat Daddy thinks you and him ought to sing to each other, but no licking.

Even though it wasn't as big a sale it sounds like you still had a great time...and scored some good stuff too. All that lace for $3.00!!! That is a steal....sorry about the dominos...he should have paid you for finding those for him!

Oh, just go for the bad/now good news and get it out! :-) Now, about that 7 mile garage sale...what a dream! 7 miles? Heck, even 3 miles is good! How fun... I love the ephemera too. And what a ton of lace. I feel discouraged after looking at our flea and garage sale finds. You find the most great stuff for the lowest possible prices. What next, are they going to pay YOU for taking the stuff away? ;-)
Have a great week!
Sharon :-)

A cocoa bath? Sorry - that just does not sound appetizing to me. LOL
I vote bad/good news! The good always makes up for the bad.
Oh you like my box? YAY! I really do too! It is the perfect size for my book.
Oh wait'll you hear the stories of what is in my parent's scrapbook. I get goosebumps, but it might be a dud for the rest of you . . . . ya never know! NO! You won't cry! you'll get goosebumps too!!!!
HUGS GIRL!!!!!
ps I'd've been VERY upset at the man who didn't want to sell the dominos too! And I'd've been REALLY upset that there was not much happening at the 7 mile yard sale!!!! FALSE ADVERTISING!! :)

OK girl-I am now wiping the drool off of my computer screen! All of that lace-how fabulous!!! I too collect vintage lace (and new for that matter) anytime I find it. My husband usually gives me a funny look like 'don't you have enough already?' but then when I am working on a project and pull out my box of lace without having to go to the store and spend money, he smiles happily that his wife is so thrifty:).

Birthday Blessings,

Kim

You scored some amazing lace! And those boxes - nice! Yard sales in my area are just about over - it's getting too cold outside. I have to wait until next year and I'm already in withdrawal!
